Girls Are Playaz Too
Your new show "Girls Are Playaz Too" on Sky Sports is amazing! What was the inspiration behind the show, and how do you hope it will impact the conversation around women in sports?
The idea came because I realised how much I wasn’t moving & i haven’t done so consistently for so many years. I then began to think, there must be so many other women out there like me, let me look deeper into this.
When the conversation happens around women in sports I hope the impact of Girlz Are Playaz Too would have been that it simply encouraged more women to move & try a new sport. And they have found a new community of like minded women.
What has been the most rewarding part of highlighting women in sports through your show?
The most rewarding part is hearing parents' feedback. The show has made them take more of an interest in their daughters' fitness which means we delivered the message well and it didn’t fall on deaf ears. Another highlight would be creating a safe space for women to try their hand at a sport.
Are there any female athletes or role models featured on your show who particularly inspired you?
Natasha Jonas. She’s not only an athlete but she’s a mum. She is a living representation of you can do whatever you put your mind to. No excuses! And she helped spearhead women’s boxing when opportunities or league’s didn’t exist. She crawled so many females could walk. She’s a pioneer!
Health & Exercise:
What’s your go-to workout routine when you're short on time but still want to get a good sweat in?
Cycling! I cycle to the gym instead of driving. It counts as my cardio, works my legs & glutes because I’m a LBT girl. Ultimately it helps shorten my session.
How do you stay motivated to keep up with your fitness routine, especially when life gets busy?
Having a gym buddy. Someone to hold me accountable & someone to motivate me to when I’m simply not feeling it. I hate letting people down so this is a fitness hack for me.
What’s one thing you wish more women knew about balancing exercise and overall health?
Fitness can be fun if you find a sport or a class you like. I hated cardio until I found boxing. Now I look forward to boxing the most & I'm gutted if it’s not a part of my workout.
BOOD UP
What’s one Bood product that you always recommend to others?
Seamoss Power Shots! I’m a shot girly & the Bood shots taste great, pack a punch & deliver the nutrients within seconds. If they’re ain’t no kick in my shot I don’t want it!
Health Secrets & Struggles:
What’s your best-kept health secret that you swear by?
I love a cheeky Epsom salt bubble bath. It relieves the aches and puts you in the perfect mood for bedtime. The secret is to stretch in the bath whilst you’re soaking or just after.
What’s one area of health or fitness that you struggle with the most?
Healthy eating. I’m such a foodie & crave everything that is not good for me. But I have to remind myself, everything in moderation.
How do you overcome challenges on days when you’re not feeling your best physically or mentally?
To be honest by not applying pressure on myself. I think it’s important to listen to your body. So if I need to sit out one day to go hard the next, I will. But you got to make the days you work count.
Future Goals
What’s one health or fitness goal you’ve recently set for yourself?
To have a non-negotiable fitness class. Prioritise it & be consistent.
Is there something new you'd like to start, either in your fitness routine or overall wellness journey?
Stretching! Stretching just because. I think we take stretching regularly for granted.
What’s one habit or routine you hope you never give up?
My competitive spirit. It’s the one thing that drives me when I’m tired or what to give up.
Thanks for tuning in, and remember to stay active and connected! Keep moving and supporting one another in your fitness journeys. We can't wait to share more inspiring stories next week. Until then, take care and Bood up! 💪❤️
